I'm not sure which of his books is my favorite -- probably either Cryptonomicon or the Baroque Cycle. I just started the first book of S.M. Stirling's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emberverse_series" rel="nofollow">Emberverse Series</a>. It's been a while since I've settled down with some good, fun science fiction. I haven't read Travels with Charlie. The Grapes of Wrath turned me off of Steinbeck back when I read that, but I think the book was a bit above my maturity level at the time.
